ABOUT US

John C. Welch, Jr. began his real estate career buying and selling homes for CBS Realty in February of 1970. As John has shared with the office, real estate was very different then with agents depending on large printed books for listings, actual keys used to unlock supra boxes, and sales contracts that were only a few pages in length. He likes to call it the “Wild West” of real estate and said many deals were done with a handshake.

When the owner of CBS Realty, who had been John’s good friend and mentor passed away, John handled the property management of the family’s homes while they made plans to sell. Intrigued with the idea of his own small business, John opened Four Seasons Property Management on June 1, 1984 as a one man shop while still transitioning from CBS.

At that time, Four Seasons managed 11 properties and John worked out of a small one room office. He had recently married and always wondered why his wife Betty would agree to marry him while starting a new business with so few clientele. In 1986 John rented office space on Duncan Avenue in the Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte and he hired his first employee as an office assistant. John liked the areas off Central Avenue because he believed his office should be located centrally in the city and accessible by all types of transportation including city buses.

In 2000, now with a staff of two office assistants and a maintenance supervisor, Four Seasons bought and renovated an office space at its current location of 2334 The Plaza, also located in Plaza Midwood. Around that same time, as the company began to expand rapidly, John hired Susan Amick as a second licensed real estate agent. Susan, who is also John’s daughter, grew up around the business and has now made property management her career.

Today, over 30 years later Four Seasons has 7 full-time employees, subcontracts work through numerous contractors, and manages approximately 700 properties for over 300 owners throughout Mecklenburg, Gaston, Union, Iredell, and Cabarrus counties. Betty, John’s wife obviously saw the potential in him from day one.

To this day, John still likes the idea of a small business and hopes to keep it that way. He continues to work in the office full-time and oversees all operations of the company. Although he does have plans of someday retiring to the beach in the Ocean Drive section of North Myrtle where he and his wife have a vacation home, we expect to see him the office for many years to come.

As John has taught the staff, Four Seasons prides itself in offering personal service and not becoming too big that we lose touch with our owners and tenants. Personally answering all phone calls, staff being knowledgeable of the entire company portfolio, and always “doing the right thing” even if it cost the company money are some of the ways we try to adhere to this philosophy.
